Initiatives

While working on the trail corridor, BRTA is uncovering opportunities for downtown revitalization, housing, commercial and retail. When needed, we assist the towns with meetings among key players, writing grants or whatever is needed to enhance the town.

  • Trail Town Trash – Litter Gitter Program – Monthly Trash Pickups by Volunteers
  • Educational Materials for Kids – Because kids who explore nature today become the stewards of tomorrow.
  • Old Glory Mill for Rhodhiss – A town center that includes housing, jobs, safe transportation, outdoor recreation and tourism while preserving the rich heritage of the town.
  • Downtown Glen Alpine – Assisting to bring in NC Commerce for 5-Year Economic Development & Implementation Plan
  • Royal Park for Hildebran Completed – The eastern terminus of the Burke River Trail, BRTA accepted and processed over $30K in community donations. Town of Hildebran led the project.
  • Downtown Park for Glen AlpineCompleted – The western terminus of the Burke River Trail, BRTA assisted with park design, facilitated public input, and secured funding. Throughout the process, the Town of Glen Alpine provided leadership and final approval, ensuring the project reflected the community’s vision and needs.
