From a 1917 General Store to a Trail Partner: Lindy’s Invests in Connelly Springs’ Future

For more than a century, Lindy’s Furniture has been a cornerstone of Connelly Springs.

Founded in 1917 as a general store, the business has grown and adapted through generations—always rooted in family values, hard work, and a commitment to the community. Today, that legacy continues under the leadership of siblings Lindy Hudson Jr., Julie Hudson, Katie Purgason and Cessy Smith, who are carrying the business forward while honoring its past.

Now, they’re helping shape the future, too.

The Hudson family has made a $1,000 donation to the Burke River Trail Association (BRTA) and expressed support for bringing the trail by their property—an investment not just in recreation, but in the long-term vitality of Connelly Springs.

Their support builds on an ongoing partnership. In 2024, Lindy’s hosted a community brainstorming session, where residents shared ideas for what a future trail could connect—places like the historic springs and hotels, Israel Chapel, Hudson Cemetery, and longtime local landmarks like Chicken in the Basket (which was still open at that time). Even sites that no longer exist sparked conversation, with the idea that future trail kiosks could preserve and tell those stories.

In 2025, Lindy’s again stepped up—hosting a Trail Town Trash Litter Gitter cleanup, providing a central gathering point and supplies for volunteers working to care for their community.

These moments reflect something bigger.

When a long-standing, successful business steps forward and says, “we believe in this,” it sends a powerful message.

The Burke River Trail is designed to connect communities—not just physically, but economically and culturally. For Connelly Springs, that could mean linking people to its history, its natural beauty, and the local businesses that have quietly sustained it for generations.

Lindy’s Furniture is one of those businesses.

And now, they’re helping lead the way.

As the next generation looks ahead, that excitement is already building.

“Lindy’s Furniture loves supporting our local trail! This is going to be something special, and we’re so happy to be a part of bringing it to life,” said Lexi Purgason, granddaughter of founder Lindy Hudson Sr. “Don’t forget to make a little pit stop at Lindy’s Furniture, Connelly Springs location along the way—and so many other great spots too.”
